No problem; you can easily add them. Want to change the location of apps, or move around widgets and add new ones to each of your panes and the Home screen? The rest of this section shows you how. The Home screen is practically a blank canvas, waiting for your Picasso-like touches. Instead of paint, you can add widgets, shortcuts, and folders to it, and even change its wallpaper. So the Galaxy live wallpaper, for example, shows an animated galaxy made up of swirling stars, while the Maps live wallpaper displays your current location on Google Maps.

The Wallpaper choice lets you use a static wallpaper. No matter what you choose, you get to preview the wallpaper first. When you add wallpaper to your Home screen, it also shows up as the background on all your panes. To move a widget, folder, or shortcut, press your finger on it and hold it for a second or two. A box will appear behind it and turn red for just an instant, and then turn turquoise, and the sides of the Home screen will be outlined in white.

The Droid X, despite its large screen and considerable capabilities, can go a reasonably long time on one battery charge. But if you use a lot of power-sucking features, you may not even be able to get through whole day without having to recharge. Be smart about email fetching. The more often the Droid X checks email, the faster the battery runs down. Either check email manually only when you need to, or increase the interval at which the Droid X checks. You can choose from intervals between 15 minutes and 4 hours, or manually.

Use the right battery profile. See Battery Manager for details. They use up tons of power. Go to the Settings page and launch the Power Control widget; there you can turn any of these three antennas on or off. Watch out for power-sapping apps. Some, such as 3D games, can use serious amounts of juice. If, after installing an app, you notice your battery running low quickly, consider deleting it, or running it only when necessary.

With the Droid X, your fingers do the walking. They do all the work that you do on a computer with a mouse or keyboard. Tapping is as basic to the Droid X as clicking is to a mouse.

This one simple gesture is how you press onscreen buttons, place the cursor for text entry, and choose from menus. For example, when you touch and hold the Home screen, a menu appears that lets you add an object such as a widget, change your wallpaper, and so on.

You also touch and hold an object as a way to grab onto it if you then want to drag the object somewhere. Think of the flick as a faster slide, done vertically when scrolling through a list, such as a list of your contacts. The faster you make the flicking motion, the faster your screen scrolls—sometimes too fast. You can stop the motion, though, by touching the screen again. Flicks seem to actually obey the laws of physics, or at least as much as virtual movement can.

When you flick a list, it starts off scrolling very quickly, and then gradually slows down, as if it were a ball set in motion that gradually loses momentum. In many apps, such as Google Maps, Mail, the Web, and Photos, you can zoom in by spreading your fingers—placing your thumb and forefinger on the screen and spreading them.

The amount you spread your fingers will determine the amount you zoom in. To zoom out, put your thumb and forefinger on the screen and pinch them together. The more you pinch, the more you zoom out. I just read something else like this today. Your texts will also show up on the contacts app even if u deleted them in the messaging app. We need to find a solution to this issue. A search on Motorola's site says they're aware and "working on it" Hope that means a fix soon.

If they want businesses to use this phone they need to fix this ASAP. Does nothing for security Maybe one of the dev can fix it now that we have root. I think they should name the app or fix the "Tiger woods" lol no seriously..

I too found it by accident by adding a shortcut to my home screen and said oh my all my texts are vulnerable and exposed with a simple long press on the home screen been trying to erase for 2 days.
