On the face of it, they both look similar as if both can be used interchangeably. However, there are subtle differences between cute and pretty that will be highlighted in this article. May be she is short and chubby and good looking but she is definitely hot or sexy as you would like to pinch her cheeks as if you were talking about your kid sister. Babies and kittens are cute because they make you go "Awww". It's often how 'girly girls' are described. It can still mean attractive though. Funnily enough, cute can be used as a way of describing an act. Like if someone does something really romantic, people often say "Aww, that's cute! Unlike cute, you can't do something that makes people think you're pretty. It's just a simple way of saying enjoyable to look at. I'd say pretty means you look at twice while beautiful means you look at, stare and your jaw drops.

We assign sophistication to things that we can not define as cute. Sunset is never referred to as cute. There is a ranking in giving someone or something a compliment. Pretty is a word that people use for typically girls with above-average looks. The specific feature of the term pretty is that it tends to complement the facial characteristics and not the body.
Sophistication is linked with the definition of pretty. Pretty does not only refer to the beauty in the appearance or features, but it relates to the specified inner beauty. It generally refers to the physical attractiveness of a girl. Pretty is the quality of being beautiful or being pleasing to look at.
The terms cute and pretty are both imply subjectiveness. They are used to define or compliment something or someone. Although both the words are the same in a way, they also differ in their intensity and meaning conveyed.
